 Georges Fernand Menard

Peacefully, at the Selkirk Regional Health Center, on Monday, July 24, 2017, Georges Menard, aged 93 years passed away with his family by his side.

Georges is survived by his son Doug; daughter Suzanne (Richard); son Dave; granddaughter Stephanie; sister-in-law Rita and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Olga and numerous family and friends.

Dad was born in St. Adolphe, Quebec on March 25, 1924. He was raised in Montreal and at the age of 18, he joined the Canadian Air Force. During his 30 year career with the Air Force, dad travelled all over Canada and Europe.

In 1955, dad married his soul mate Olga Zacharias, his wife of 54 years. They travelled across Europe with the Air Force while raising three children. In 1972, the family moved to Selkirk. After his retirement from the Air Force, dad worked at Robert Smith School as a caretaker. He truly enjoyed his 17 years at the school.

Dad was always a positive person and tried to make the best of every situation. He enjoyed his daily walks around town, gardening, politics and talking with family and friends. His greatest joy was his family. He will be forever cherished by them for his endless love and support.

The family would like to thank all the compassionate staff at the Betel Nursing Home, especially Melissa, Barb, Paula, and Amanda. Thanks to all family and friends that took the time to visit him and brighten his day. Girda and Mildred, Dad really enjoyed your friendship.
