Ida Thidrickson

It is with great sadness the family announces the unexpected passing of Ida Thidrickson, on July 22, 2017, at the Gimli Community Health Center, at the age of 86 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Franklin; sons, Murray, Gregory (Deb), Craig (Elaine) and daughter-in-law Lydia. Also mourning her loss are 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her son Blair in 2016 and her sister Rose in 1997.

Ida and franklin started out life together grain farming while raising their 4 sons. Ida, an avid gardener, put up an enormous array of vegetables, pickles and jams. She also had a freezer full of baked goods ready when company stopped by. Ida was a founding member of the Netley Community Centre and volunteered for anything that was asked of her, so it was fitting that she won the R.M. of St. Andrews volunteer of the year award in 2011.

Ida couldn’t pass up bingo; winning $5 or $500 made her happy. She enjoyed playing in cribbage tournaments in the area and was a fierce competitor. Ida and Franklin enjoyed time travelling throughout the United States in their later years visiting many places and making new friends. In the last few years, Ida and Franklin enjoyed going to South Beach Casino, where she played the penny machines and they enjoyed sharing a meal of chicken fingers and fries.

Unfortunately, lung disease took over her life and Ida became housebound. The family would like to thank Dr. Louden, home-care staff and nurses at Gimli Hospital for her care.

Cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Family and friends are invited to a lunch at the Netley Community Centre on Tuesday, August 1 from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m..

Flowers gratefully declined, a donation can be made to a charity of ones choice.
