Albert Komadowski Obituary

Albert Frederick Komadowski

On Sunday, July 8, 2018, Albert Frederick Komadowski peacefully passed away at his residence, succumbing to numerous health conditions.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Pat) Komadowski; brother-in-law Warren Piggott; nephew, Robert Piggott (Carolyn) and his precious grandniece Abigail.  Albert also left behind to treasure his memory, step-daughter Janet (Faron) and their daughter Chevelle (who knew Albert as Papa) and Amanda Noval.  Also, left to remember Albert are dear friends, Garry and Lorrie Burziuk, uncles Joe Komadowski and John Komadowski; numerous cousins and countless friends.  Albert was predeceased by our parents, Frank Komadowski in 1996, and Gisela (Gay) Komadowski (nee Jahn) in 2001.

Albert first worked with our parents in the family business Gay Day Laundromat, repairing the washers and dryers.  Then he became a kiln-operator at XL Tiles in Lockport and last employment was as a courier driver for First Choice in Winnipeg.  Following a serious motorcycle accident in 1979, he became a free-spirit and started his search for where he fit-in in life which led to his becoming an entrepreneur.  His first business venture was as an owner-operator of Central Car Wash in Selkirk, then a business partnership with his friend Garry Burziuk, salvaging and recycling of scrap metal; snow removal in the Selkirk area; Broadway Courier, and lastly Sudsy Suzy Laundromat from 1991 to 2016.  In addition to these business ventures he was also involved in several commercial real estate (inherited from our parents) and residential real estate rental ventures.  Selkirk Town Plaza which he sold his interests in April 2006 and Arena Plaza in September 2016.

Albert was born in Selkirk Manitoba, on April 24, 1953.  As he grew into a young man, his passion for motorcycles and thrill-seeking became very evident.  As Albert and I reminisced about our childhood and parts of our adult life, he reaffirmed his love for the dogs he had in his life over the years and the babies and young children of friends.  At his 65th Birthday Party he was grinning from ear to ear watching a friend’s son, Nixon (12 months) and his grand-niece Abigail (11 months) zooming (crawling) around the room. The last picture of Albert was of him playing cards with his step-granddaughter Chevelle (5).  Those of us who knew Albert and/or had dealings with him will remember him for his gruffness and challenging behavior but also his tenderness, kindness and generosity.

The family would like to thank the Home Care providers that Albert had in the last months of his life, especially Debbie, Robin, Janet and Gail.  Your care for Albert was greatly treasured.  Also, a very special friend, Cathy from Pine Falls Hospital who was instrumental in Albert getting his prosthetic leg.  Dr. Ali for being there and helping to meet his needs and respecting his wishes.  All of you have made a challenging life situation bearable.

Pallbearers will be Robert Piggott, Brian Piggott, Faron Sinclair, Darryl Faulkes, Roy Guttormson and Dennis Lafreniere.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St. Selkirk Manitoba.  There will be a viewing of Albert from 10:00 – 11:00, Services starting at 11:00 and lunch to follow.
