AXEL JON MELSTED
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Axel Jon Melsted, 79 years old, at the Gimli Community Health Center on Thursday, November 14, 2019.
Axel was predeceased by the love of his life Eleanor, his wife of 43 years. He is lovingly remembered by their 3 children Karen (Terrence) Gislason, Darrell (Lori) Melsted and Kelvin (Kaia) Melsted, along with 6 grandchildren Noah, Mitchell, Donny, Jordan, Kirkland and Tristan, and 3 great-grandchildren Lilly, Ellie and Cameron.
Dad was born in Riverton, Manitoba on August 7, 1940. He was raised in Arnes, along with his 9 brothers and sisters. He attended South Arnes School, attended Red River College in Winnipeg, and obtained his Heavy Duty Mechanic certificate.
Axel and Eleanor moved to Arnes, Manitoba, raised their family and ran a dairy farm. Dad was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a member of the Kokoro-e Judo Club in Gimli with Darrell and Kelvin. He was a very musical person, enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.
Dad sold the Dairy farm in the early 80’s, and worked at Mandak in Selkirk until his retirement.
Dad enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as fishing. He took pride in his gardening, and keeping his yard in pristine condition. He enjoyed the opportunity to help anyone out whenever required.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, Manitoba with Rev. Anthon Bouw officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date.
He never looked for praises
He was never one to boast.
He just went on quietly working
for the ones he loved the most.
His dreams were seldom spoken
His wants were very few
and most of the times his worries went unspoken too
He was there … a firm foundation
through all our storms of life
A Sturdy hand to hold onto
in times of stress and strife
A true friend we could turn to
when times were good or bad.
One of our greatest blessings….
The man that we call Dad….
