Craig Kindrat Obituary

CRAIG JOHNATHON PETER KINDRAT

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”   It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, brother, uncle and friend on August 6, 2018.

Craig will be forever loved and missed by his son Hayden of New York, NY, his sister Jan Harris and nephew Dylan Harris (Pam), his sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Jim Bedard and nephews Jared Bedard (and great-niece Hayley), Justin Bedard (Nicole) and Jordan Bedard (Nadine).

Craig was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and John Kindrat, his brother-in-law Roger Harris as well as many loved relatives and friends, and several beloved canine companions over the years.

Craig was born on October 19, 1963 in Selkirk, Manitoba where he lived throughout his childhood, graduating from Lord Selkirk High School and where he was involved in many community activities, especially sports. Craig was a talented athlete in both hockey and golf and later a competitive fisherman. At the age of 17, he was awarded a golf scholarship to Florida Southern University and then the University of Southern Mississippi where he obtained his Masters in Counselling. Following university he married Deb Davis and they later became parents to Hayden. In 1994, Craig and his family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in order to be closer to his Canadian family. Here he began a lengthy career in the field of behavioral health and addictions, initially as a counsellor and later as a manager. In recent years Craig moved back to Manitoba for a brief period before setting his sights on the shores of southern Ontario.

Craig was a self-taught golfer in his youth and was a part of the Manitoba Junior Golf Team for 2 years. His golf career was cut short due to various injuries but he continued to follow the tournaments, and was always aware of how his college golf buddies were doing in theirs. While living in the US, he grew a passion for bass fishing where he pursued the goal of competing for the South Dakota Bass Fishing Team. He was known to spend hours meticulously hand-painting his lures to attract the big ones and when he did, he would weigh, measure and take a picture of them before gently releasing them. Craig was a dog lover and had several Wheaton Terrier companions over the years, who he enjoyed taking on long walks. He was also known to try to win the affections of other family dogs by luring them with treats. Craig also possessed a wealth of knowledge about many different animals and birds and could spot all kinds of critters with his “eagle-eye”.

Craig was a kind and gentle-spirited man who found great solace in nature and in his faith. He tried very hard to incorporate the wisdom of AA in his life. In his career he was able to help many who had struggles and was the kind of person who rarely said a critical word about anyone.

But most of all, family was very important to Craig. He was extremely proud of his son Hayden, as well as his nephews. Craig would want to express gratitude to all his family and friends who supported him through difficult times and various health challenges. He so cherished the significant people in his life and truly valued the time he had with you all.

A celebration of Craig’s life will take place on Friday, August the 24th at 1:30 in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on HWY 9/ 106 Sawchuk Dr. near Selkirk.
