David John Skomerowski

April 16, 1942 – July 25, 2019

  It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  Left to cherish his memory are his partner, best friend, and soul mate, Rosa Johnston; daughter Theresa Piche (Bob); son Vincent (Shauna); grandchildren Jessica and Nicholas; brother Albert and stepsons Troy and Calvin Johnston.  Dave was predeceased by his parents, Stella and John Skomerowski; wife Frances and sister-in-law, Alda Cameron.

  Dave was always a fun loving guy, had a great sense of humour, usually the life of the party, and was known as “Skome” in his early years.  He really was the original “Fonzi”, riding his motorcycle…sporting that cool hairdo.  He taught himself to play the guitar at age 15 and was a member of the “Four D’s Band” for almost 30 years.  His passion for music was shared with so many people.

  As a young man, Dave worked as a deckhand on the freight boats on Lake Winnipeg.  He traveled extensively thru out Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, renovating grain elevators.  His carpentry career began at Seagram’s, then at the Gimli Airbase, and eventually retired with then Manitoba Government in Winnipeg.  Although he worked away from home frequently, he lived in Gimli most of his life.

  During his retirement, Dave and Rosa enjoyed a number of trips, but always preferred the peace and serenity of their country home.

Rest in peace and enlighten heaven with your beautiful music.  You are so loved and sadly missed!
