Doreen McKay
On Saturday, September 29, 2018, after battling a lengthy illness, Doreen Elizabeth McKay, aged 60 years, left this world.
She leaves to mourn her 3 children, Dennis Sanderson, Lance McKay, and Lana Woodhouse (Riley) of Winnipeg; lifelong friend and partner Frank Abigosis, also of Winnipeg; brothers, Donald (Robyn) of Vancouver, Leslie (Crystal), Mickey (Shirley), Frank (Lisa) of Selkirk, and Joey (Cheryl) of Winnipeg; sisters, Shirley (John) of Winnipeg, and Thelma of Peguis; grandchildren Verna, Danica, Romeo, Andy, Noah, Rina, and Charley Sixx; great-grandchildren Shyanna, Natalya and Adrian; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, who were all very special and dear to her heart. Also leaves to mourn is her special friend and neighbor, Little Donnie, with whom she listened to the Sunday request show every week.
Doreen was predeceased by the father of her children, Brian McKay; parents Gladys and Robert Sanderson; sisters Norma and Violet and brother Andy.
She was a jack of all trades. Throughout her life she had been a childcare worker, carpenter, seamstress, medical driver, chaperone for the Peguis school bus and a labourer among other things.
Doreen brought joy and laughter anywhere she went. Her smile would light any of the gloomiest days. Her laughter would come from her belly and echo through all of our hearts. She loved being surrounded by the little ones, especially her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews of Peguis. Her door, heart and ears were always open. She was such a loving person, all she wanted from anyone was to visit and have a smoke with her.
She will always be remembered for her silly ways and jokes, her wonderful smile, and of course her many chapeaus.
In lieu of flowers, at Doreen's request, anyone who wishes, is asked to bring a chapeau (hat), which will be displayed at her services.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 7-8:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk MB. Cremation will follow and a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. also in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel. Interment to immediately follow at the St Peter's Old Stone Church in East Selkirk, MB.
