Doreen Kathleen Shumilak

On Wednesday October 10, 2018 at the age of 62 Doreen Shumilak passed away peacefully and suddenly at her lifelong home on the family farm.

Doreen was born in Selkirk on November 3, 1955 and was predeceased by parents Paul and Nettie (nee Kogut) Shumilak, her sister-in-law Sharon and her niece Tanya Talabis. Doreen is survived by her brothers Robert, Paul (Susan), Jim and her twin sister Diane Wittmeier (Les) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doreen had a passion for hairdressing and spent the major part of her working life as a hairdresser until her health forced her into an early retirement. Doreen’s health challenges, continued, and she dealt with them with dignity and strength. Doreen also had a passion for shopping, regular trips to Winnipeg were her favourite especially when she was accompanied by Mom and Diane. Doreen’s baking skills were second to none and anytime she offered to bring something, her pies were always requested. Just over a year ago her brother Jim brought two kittens home and she instantly fell in love with “Boots” and “Patches”, they were a great focus of her attention.

We all will miss her and are thankful that we had her as long as we did and that she is no longer in pain. Doreen, you will be in our hearts forever.

We would like to thank the first responders for their professionalism and compassion during a very difficult time.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Garson, MB with Fr. Sylvanus Omali officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doreen’s honour may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Garson or a charity of one’s own choice.
