Dorothy Mae Cholosky

(Nee Little)

Jan. 19, 1928-Aug. 20, 2019

Dorothy passed away peacefully in her sleep with family at her side Aug. 20, 2019 at Extendicare Red River Place.  She was predeceased by her husband Joe, sisters Muriel and Helen, brothers Melville, Allan, Gordon and Jackie and granddaughter Kerri-Dawn.  Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda McKenzie (Greg) and son Gary (Diana), 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Stonewall, Manitoba, moved around Manitoba as a youth before settling in Selkirk where she spent her entire adult life. She married dad in 1949. Mom worked at various jobs, first at Fairfields in Little Britain, then Monarch Wear, the CNIB canteen at the Selkirk Mental Health centre and then, after the canteen closed, her and dad took over the canteen and operated it independently until her retirement. Mom was well known for the homemade pies and tarts she faithfully baked every week to sell at the canteen. Mom loved to bake, sew, play bingo and gamble. Mom lived a full life which included travelling with dad to Mexico every winter and going on gambling trips with their friends

The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Red River Place and Doctors Brian and Richard Lindenschmidt for their excellent care of mom over the last 14 months.   A private family interment will be held at the St. Clements Cemetery on Monday, Aug. 26 following which; the family would like to invite friends and family to a remembrance lunch to be served at Gilbart’s Funeral Home Reception Center (entrance behind Funeral Home) at 12:00 noon. Please dress casual.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
