Douglas Spence

Peacefully, at his residence on Friday, February 22, 2019, Douglas Spence, aged 66 years of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation passed away.

He is survived by his children Doug and Ellen, his grandchildren Alicia, Drake, Alexis, Baily and Rain. Douglas will be dearly missed by his sisters Clara (Don), Madeline, Shirley (Jeffry), Linda (Clarence), Delores (Wilfred), Lorrayne (Rico), and Anita. Douglas had a large family with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Douglas was predeceased by his mother and father Esther and Cook; brothers, Kenneth, David, Roland and Bobby; sisters Arlene and Victoria; nephews and niece, Christopher, Corey, Puddy and Jeremy.

Douglas was born on July 1, 1952 in Pine Falls. He spent his childhood in Brokenhead and as an adult, worked for his community at the Bison Ranch and Historical Village as groundskeeper. He left to live in British Colombia for short time and worked as Landscaper for Isadore Landscape. He returned to Brokenhead in 2006 where he lived until his passing. Douglas was kind, helpful and caring with those he loved, he loved spending time with family and friends. He also loved all animals especially cats, and truly enjoyed gardening. Before his sudden passing, he thought dearly of his late Mom Esther, and wanted to build a cabin, he enjoyed outdoor living, gardening and taking care many of his pets. He was an awesome Dad and grandpa who loved us all very much and we will miss him forever.

Pallbearers will be Drake Spence, Doug Sumner, Farrell Spence, Dana Quantrill, Paul Chief and Carl Smith.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, Manitoba. Interment to follow in Brokenhead, MB.
