George Law Obituary

George Albert Law

(1945 – 2018)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Dad (Papa), George Law on November 8, 2018.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Shelly (Rick) Cain, Barry (Jackie), Rob (Trina), and Steven; grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Ruth, George, Jordan and Katriel; brother Charles-Chuck (Ilene) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Aureen; siblings and their spouses Delbert (Maureen), Jim (Edna), Ron (Grace), Howard (Betty), Janet (George) Shead and Lorna (Jim) Baty.

Dad started working at an early age, Skinners, Thor’s meats, Lake Land Dairy, CP Rail as a Diesel Mechanic, Felec Services Incorporated (FSI) in Northern Canada, Distant Early Warning Systems in which he was under contract for the US Air force Sac & Tac-North American Defense (Main site, auxiliary and Sector site Mechanic and maintaining and installing USAF Equipment, fueling aircrafts). When he returned home he worked for the Selkirk Steel Mill then moved onto the City of Selkirk Public Works department as a mechanic, where he later retired.

Dad spent many years with the Selkirk Branch Navy League – Sea Cadets (77 Daerwood). He later became a lieutenant before retiring and was an active member of the Selkirk Legion before his passing.

Dad was always there for anyone who needed a shoulder to lean on. He supported us no matter what. We knew that he was only a phone call away or a trip to the coffee shop. We could confide in him our deepest secrets and he had the ability to calm troubled waters that came our way, even if that meant a joke or two to bring a smile to ones face.

Dad’s biggest sparkle in his eye was being a Grandpa (Papa). He loved being around his grandchildren. He would often drive them around looking and talking about the different trains, a ride to see wildlife, which often led them for an ice cream to end the day. He loved listing to them read, watching them play, what their plans were as the kids aged, and any stories they had to tell him. Dad would often make huge feasts to bring family together for a bit of laughter in the home.

We would like to thank Dr. Panu for her attention to detail when it came to his health, Home Care workers and anyone else that made his life a little sweeter, as well as Gilbart Funeral Home for taking care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Diabetes Association.

Dad we love you and we are going to miss you…May you Rest in Peace.

In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place in the St. Clement's Columbarium.
