Gladys Elliott Obituary

Gladys Mary Elliott (nee Smith)

Peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in Winnipeg, MB, Gladys Elliott, aged 96 years, passed away.

Gladdie is survived by her 3 loving children, Carol (Ron), Jan (Erin), Marie (Randy); her 2 beautiful grandchildren Lindsay (Jamie) and Scott; her delightful great grandchildren Ruby and Elliott (who gave her joy through her very last day); her sister Jean and several nieces and nephews in England. She is preceded in death by her late husband Murray and all of her younger brothers.

Gladdie was born on February 14, 1923 in Doncaster, England and moved to Strathclair, Manitoba in 1946 after marrying a young Canadian pilot.  She was talented, industrious and feisty. As well, she was a voracious reader, making her a strong armchair Jeopardy contestant. She loved thick political biographies and followed all things Royal, having once met King George VI at Buckingham Palace. She was extremely grateful for her children and grandchildren and was thrilled to experience her great grandchildren, who seem to share her feistiness.

At Gladdie’s request, no services will be held. The family wants to thank the staff of Riverview for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Riverview Health Centre or Cancer Research.

“Those we love can never be more than a thought away, for as long as there’s a memory they live in our hearts to stay.”

Condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com.
