It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Stevenson on July 26, at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Irene will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her devoted and loving husband Rob. He was her true partner, champion caregiver, soul mate and the love of her life. By her loving and beloved sons, Rob (Lindsay) and children Mack and Shae, Michael (Rochelle) and daughter Mia. Irene’s grandchildren were her treasures.

Irene had a very special place in her heart for her loving sister Kathy, and she had a special friendship with her ‘sister’ Patty and her husband Wayne. She will be remembered warmly by her dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws who she was so happy to have in her life.

She was predeceased by her loving mother, father-in-law and sister-in-law.

Irene followed her dreams and became a teacher. It was her calling and she was proud of her 30 plus years at St. Andrews School. She was so grateful for meeting so many special friends and sharing so many happy times.

She had a love of travel and was so happy with her trips to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Greece, Paris, Hawaii and the East Coast of Canada. Her favourite spot in paradise was Puerto Vallarta. Her favourite place in the world was Home and their cottage at West Hawk Lake; many a happy gathering was shared there with those she loved.

Irene will be remembered for her strength and bravery, for her kindness and for her caring, generous and loving spirit.

Irene felt very blessed for her beautiful life, her faith, and her family and friends and her Fabulous Fridays. She always knew she was surrounded with Love.

A Celebration of Life and Love will be held on Friday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St. Selkirk, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene’s memory can be made to the ALS Society at www.ALS.mb.ca.

A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Center for the outstanding care and support.
