Joseph Paul Ganton
On January 6th, suddenly, but not unexpectedly, Joe (Trapper) Ganton slipped away to a place where he no longer struggled to breathe. His life was full, he was faithful to his friends, and his love for, and pride in his family, was larger than life itself.
Joseph Paul Ganton was born on September 2nd, 1957, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He moved with his family throughout the Interlake. He was an active hunter and fisherman, and worked hard for MTS, and then later, shipped out to Terrace, B.C. where he enjoyed the mountains, wilderness, and his job with BC Tel/Telus. He loved the challenge of the rugged terrain, and spoke frequently and fondly of his crew members. “Nothing better than an ice-cold OV or two, and a gathering of friends”.
Joe is survived by his Mom, Lauraine, who may never recover from this loss, and by his loving sister, Colleen and her husband Bob Byron, his good friend. Joe loved talking about his nieces, Stefanie (Blake), Lindsay (Dorian) and Chelsey (Chris). He delighted in stories of his great nieces, Cadence and Cassidy, and often said he was going to teach them how to fish. Joe was predeceased by his Dad, Paul, in 2003. He was always saddened to hear of other losses “at home”, both family members and friends.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held in Manitoba when the snow is gone, grass is green, and trees are in full bloom, just as he would have wanted it.
The family would like to thank the medical staff (especially the ICU) of the Northwest Regional Hospital, in Terrace. Special thanks to Joe’s good friend, Mervin Warner, who spent so much time with Joe, and for the constant contact with his family in Manitoba.
Joe was always ready to lend a helping hand. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a charitable donation in his memory can be made on line to the Coldwell Lundar Community Foundation Inc., or mailed to Box 154 Lundar MB R0C 1Y0, or a charity of your choice.
