Joyce Bazan Obituary

Joyce Mary Bazan

(nee) Szostak

August 13, 1927 – September 19, 2018

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother Joyce.

Joyce is survived by her children Marlene(Ted), Gary(Gayle), Margaret(Rick), grandchildren Chris, Heather, Amy, Lisa, Erin, Allison, Lauren & Bradley, great grandchildren Alicia, Matthew, Katie, Kyle, MacKenzie, Ella, Violet & Meadow, sister Verna and many nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by her parents Frank and Maria, first husband Walter Dudeck, her husband Peter, son Alan, sisters Agnes, Helen, Annie, Emily and brothers Joe and Stanley.

Joyce was born in Dugald and grew up on a farm in Mayfield.  In her younger years she worked at Brown’s Bakery as a pastry chef, Selkirk Mental Health Centre, Bethel Home & various other jobs.

In retirement Mom spent many hours volunteering at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, the Gordon Howard Centre, Meals on Wheels and House of Economy.  She received a Premier’s award and many other recognition awards for her volunteering.  She was also a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League.

Mom enjoyed her time at her cottage at Winnipeg Beach where she spent lots of time with the grandchildren.

Family was very important to her and she was always concerned on what was going on in their lives and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  She never missed anyone’s birthday and looked forward to all family functions.

Mom was an amazing cook and baker.  She was always busy baking cookies, treats and her famous cabbage rolls were among her specialties.

A big thank you to the paramedics and emergency staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Home Care staff for the wonderful care they provided; also staff at Selkirk Marketplace for their comfort and emergency support during a difficult time.

Funeral mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Selkirk, Manitoba on Thursday, September 27 at 11 a.m. Viewing one hour prior to service at the church.
