Maria Keller Obituary

Maria Albertina Joyce Keller

(nee Thorsteinson)

Maria passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 4, 2019.

Maria is predeceased by her parents Steini and Ethel Thorsteinson, brothers John, Leonard and sister Norma.  She is survived by, and will be deeply missed, by her husband Donald, her children, Chuck (Maurice), Mark (Vicki), Janice (Kelly) and Judy. Mom was known as Amma to her 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren which she loved.  Maria is also survived by her sister Hazel and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Maria was born in Geysir, Manitoba on June 14, 1936.  She grew up on the family farm later moving to Arborg with her parents.  Maria met Donald Keller and they were married on May 1, 1954.  They eventually moved from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Red Lake, Ontario in 1955. They made a home in Balmertown, Ontario where she raised her family and did work at a few jobs when her children were older.  They eventuality moved to Red Lake where they bought a home on the lake. Mom loved it there and she enjoyed  entertaining family and great friends.  After retirement they moved to Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba in 2000 where they spent many wonderful years and then in 2014 they moved to Selkirk, Manitoba.

Mom was loving, caring, and kind.  She loved to cook for her family and for all who walked through her door.  You never went hungry in her house. Mom was always very welcoming to all and she loved to play card games with her family and friends.

Mom had a deep faith in God so we don’t doubt that she is an Angel in Heaven watching over us.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for being so caring for Mom and very accommodating and kind to our family.  We would also like to thank Kyla for all her visits with Mom and all that she did at the hospital.  Mom really enjoyed her company.

As Mom was cremated, a graveside Celebration of Life will be held on July 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philips Cemetery in Arborg Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Maria’s memory to Palliative Care at Selkirk Regional Health Centre or to Cancer Care Manitoba.
