Minota Margaret Jersak

(nee MacKay) 

Minota was born on July 2, 1934, went to be with her Saviour on November 27, 2017.

She is survived by her son Paul; granddaughters Erin (Andrew) Thomas and Jamie (Duane) Mondor; great-grandchildren Brayson Thomas, Taylor-Leigh, Adalynn and Jaxen Mondor; her brother Keith (Berenice) and his family; sister Donna; brothers-in-law Lloyd (Irene) and Henry (Florence); many nieces and nephews in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Selkirk and special cousins Alaing (Steve), Gail (Joe), and Stuart (Diana).

Minota was predeceased by her husband of 56 years George (2015); son Glen (1996); father Ernest (1977); mother Lorna (1997); sister Beverley (2016); cousins Bunny and Eleanor Waterman, and Marilyn Hacking; father-in-law Jerry Jersak (1970) and mother-in-law Emilie Jersak (2006).

Minota, born in Selkirk, MB, moved to Winnipeg. Her parents love of music was passed on to her. She took piano lessons and developed her talent which she shared generously.

 She attended Grant Memorial Baptist Church. Minota spent a year travelling through the States and Canada playing piano for God’s Invasion Army where she made many life-long friends. Mom returned to Winnipeg and became the secretary under Pastor Splinter at Grant. She also played the piano for a handsome young trumpeter from Swan River named George Jersak. They were married and moved to Calgary, AB where he completed his education degree and taught in the small town of Carsland, AB. She played piano for the church in Langdon, AB.

They returned to Winnipeg with two children in tow and resumed attending Grant Memorial while George started teaching at St. James Collegiate. Minota gave piano lessons and taught Music For Young Children in their home. She took organ lessons and became the church organist. Mom played the piano for Lindenwood Manor Hymn Sing for 16 years and played for many weddings and funerals.

Minota and George supported missionaries by prayer, finances and encouragement throughout their marriage. They were involved in mission groups at various churches. It was their way of reaching the world for Christ.

Minota was a stay-at-home mom providing care, warmth and lunch every day. When Paul and Glen were grown, she worked for Billy Graham, the Central Canada Baptist Conference and University of Manitoba Health Services as a secretary.

She always loved to receive visits from her granddaughters, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

We wish to thank all those who helped Minota remain in her home for her final months; her sister Donna, Doctors, Nurses, Therapists, Home Care workers, and family.

A celebration of her life will be held in Selkirk, MB, at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 2, 2017. Interment will take place in the St. Clement’s Cemetery, with refreshments to follow at the Holy Eucharist Hall, 500 Pacific Ave.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a Missionary Organization, CancerCare Manitoba or Palliative Manitoba.
