Murray Arthur Keith

April 23, 1946 - September 14, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Keith.

Murray leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Gerry (neé Buhr); children Shannon, Holly, Graham (Amber), and Chelsea; grandchildren Aiden, Kingston, Emma, and Jack; brother-in-law Michael Buhr (Trish); sister-in-law Susan Burns (Ron); sister Jacqueline Baronins, and many nieces and nephews.

Murray was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ethel (neé Mitchell), and sister Carole Shaward.

Dad was born and raised in Selkirk, MB. As a child, he loved spending his free time outdoors, regardless of the season. His lifelong passions for hockey and baseball began in those early years where, in winter, you could find him on any icy surface, trying to teach himself how to skate like the pros. Equally, in summer, Dad was always on the lookout for a baseball game to participate in.

Dad met Mom in 1972 when he mistook her for someone else at an A&W drive-in. He always ended the story with, “It was love at first sight.” Mom and Dad faced many trials and tribulations during their 44-year marriage, but their bond always saw them through the darkest of times together, as a united front.

Dad’s professional life saw a few career changes, but he always ended up in a management position due to his great organization skills and his way of always knowing what to say and do to get things done. His persuasiveness and willingness to negotiate and discuss was well known to those around him.

Dad was a proud “Papa” to his grandchildren, and spent many happy times playing with them and teaching them all types of skills. He was also enamored with the family pets; our 2 dogs Katie and Gina, and 1 cat, Kitten, were all recipients of Dad’s love and spoiling. It’s a great comfort to us that he will be reunited with them all.

The family would like to thank Dr. Daeninck and nurse Melanie at Cancer Care for helping Dad with his battle, as well as the nurses and HCA’s at Concordia Hospital for their wonderful care during Dad’s final days.

Cremation has taken place and a Mass celebrating Murray’s life will be held at the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St, Selkirk, on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.

Flowers are gratefully declined, in lieu, we request that you donate to a charity that helps animals, or one dedicated to cancer cure research, in honour of Dad.
