Myrna Petrowski

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Amma, Myrna Petrowski, on July 9, 2017, surrounded by her family.  Myrna was born in Gimli and was the eldest of three children. She grew up in Minerva and went to Minerva School.  Myrna had a such a happy childhood growing up on the family farm that she often spoke of trying to recreate living in those simpler times.

She met Edwin at Farmer’s Hall and he swept her off her feet.  They were married 58 years and had five beautiful children who kept Myrna very busy.  During high season on the farm there were many trips to the fields with roasters full of food.  Later, Amma spent many hours reading to her grandchildren.  She always put everyone else before herself.  She lived for her family, and her precious cats were part of that family.

Myrna is lovingly remembered by her husband Edwin; children: Joe (Frances), Danny (Cherie-Lyne), and Richard (Shelley); brother Cameron (Linda) and sister-in-law Louise; grandchildren: Wes (Tyyne), Scott (Natasha), Jake (Isha), Gina, Rebecca, Marc, Dylon, Alexis (Jeremy), Thomas, Eric; great-grandchildren: Soren, Mikko, Thorsten and Reija.  Myrna is predeceased by her parents Helgi and Alma Benediktson, children Elaine and Allen, and her brother Robert.

We wish to thank her doctor, S.V. Patel who compassionately cared for her for 44 years. We would also like to thank Julie and Tanis in Chemo and the Palliative Care Program.  Lastly, we are so grateful for the amazing care received in her final days by the nurses and staff at Gimli Community Health Centre.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 19 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael’s Church, 7th Ave., Gimli with lunch downstairs to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care at the Gimli Community Health Centre (Box 25, Gimli) and the Gimli Women’s Health Aux. (Box 1398, Gimli).

We love you so much Amma.  Rest in peace.
