Noreen (Cookie) Isabel McAuley (Simon)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Noreen (Cookie) McAuley (Simon) at the Selkirk Regional Health Center on October 31, 2019.
Noreen was predeceased by her parents Richard and Euphemia Roberts, brother Bill and sister Pat, her husband of 43 years Erwin (Ernie) Simon, and her second husband Frank McAuley, sons-in-law Fred Scott, Murray Grove and Peter Enns.
Noreen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Noreen Mikelsons (Andy), Melva Enns, Ken (Darlene) Simon, Kathy Simon, Tracy Perigo (George), nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Mom excelled in sports whether it be baseball or speedskating where she had qualified to participate in the Olympics until the war intervened. While working for the telegraph mom met Ernie and together they moved to Selkirk, MB where they raised five children.
Busy Hands…We remember moms hands always being busy, whether it be knitting (Mom knitted hundreds of Northland sweaters), crocheting, paper tole, puzzles, embroidery, sewing, they were always busy...unless they were holding a book, mom was an avid reader whether it be a whodunit or an adventure in Africa she always had her nose in a book.
Mom was invested in numerous volunteer positions in her community. She enjoyed curling, swimming, baseball, walking, cards (mostly cribbage) and in later years travelling, bus trips with her dear friends Grady Kor and Janette Thompson along with many, many others. She was an avid supporter and member of the Selkirk Legion #42. Mom was recently celebrated at the Legion where she received her 60 year pin. What an evening, she LOVED it!
Mom lived life on her terms, she was a firecracker. She was a very determined woman, strong, generous of her time and spirit. She loved the outdoors, gardening, walking, cutting down trees (last week)!!!!
The family extend their thanks to the Dr., the nurses, especially Kaylin and Julie at SRHC.
Funeral service will be held Friday, November 8th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St. Selkirk, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Selkirk Legion Ladies Auxiliary branch #42, 403 Eveline St. Selkirk, MB R1A 1N8
Your hands can rest now Mom.
