Phyllis Boehlig Obituary

PHYLLIS MILDRED BOEHLIG (NEE KEEN) (SKIDMORE)

January 26th, 1926 – August 18th, 2018

Peacefully through the night our Mother left us to be with her beloved Harry and family. An amazing 92 years of age, mom was the last of her immediate large family. Her endless sharp wit, intelligence and supportive love to all of us will be missed immensely by her daughter Barbara Gluck (Norman), their daughters Allison Clarke, Lauren Gluck (Nick); son Brent Skidmore (Susan) and his son Shaun (Danica), great-granddaughter Julianna, daughter Gemma. Also missing her, brother-in-law Vic Martin who so faithfully visited her with treats in hand. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and the family members of her late husband Harry Boehlig.

Daughter of Fred and Elizabeth, Mom always spoke of her happy childhood years in Charleswood as a member of the Keen family. She was predeceased by Fred, Walter and Dick, Florence, Babs, Dean and Duffy. Mom and Harry retired early to be one of the first residents at Shorepointe Village in Gimli and enjoyed their retirement years busy with volunteering, golf, gardening, and travelling. One of her greatest passions other than dancing was golfing with “the girls” at Sandy Hook Golf course well into her 80’s. Never one to turn down a Crib game and the opportunity to skunk her opponents, she often proudly announced, “I peg good!" Both Mom and Harry were avid members of the Charleswood and Gimli Legions and set the example of serving your community.

We wish to acknowledge with sincere gratitude the excellent, warm and loving care she received for the past 22 months from staff at Thorvaldson Care Centre, Winnipeg. We are so grateful especially to Ryan, Margaret and Jacklyn, as mom so fondly spoke of the caregivers as a her other “family”.

Rest well Mom and dance the night away. With much love your family.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m. in the Gimli Community Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Phyllis can be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #182, Box 29, Gimli, Manitoba R0C 1B0.
