Renate Achenbach Obituary

RENATE ACHENBACH

   June 29, 1944  -  May 11, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of beloved wife, mother and friend Renate H. Achenbach on May 11th at her home in St. Andrews, Manitoba.

Renate was predeceased by her parents Marie and Michael Lauber.  Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 31 years, Hans Richter, her son Jorg Achenbach (Cheryl) and many friends.

Renate was born and raised in Eger, Germany. (Czechoslovakia)  In Hanau she apprenticed and developed her skills in the area of gemology.   She became a qualified diamond specialist, which ultimately led to a career after she immigrated to Canada on November 9, 1968.   Renate worked in jewelry retail for many years.   She was well suited to her work, being knowledgeable and professional as well as helpful and charming.

Renate had many skills.  She worked as a professional fashion model from the late 1960s to the early 80s.  She owned and operated her own Merle Norman Cosmetics shop, was editor for Kanada Kourier, the German language newspaper in Winnipeg and volunteered as manager of Deutsches Panorama German Television Station in Winnipeg.

She was also a great cook and an excellent baker creating European specialties such as Linzertorte and Weinachstollen, a delight for her family and friends.

Renate and Hans loved their pastoral home in St. Andrews complete with their beloved horses Rosie and Dunnie their faithful dogs, Buck and Romus  and their cat Muschi.  Renate loved animals!

It was here in her and Han’s piece of paradise that she felt most at peace.  Her home was always inviting and welcoming.

Renate was a strong and resourceful woman, a loving mother to her son Jorg and a loyal and stalwart friend.
