Shirley Anne Edythe Kelm (nee Horn)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Anne Edythe Kelm. Shirley passed away at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk, Manitoba on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the age of 77 years.
Mom was born on October 23, 1940 in Bowsman, Manitoba. She moved with her family to a farm near Woodnorth, Manitoba when she was a young child, and this is where she grew up. After High School she taught in a one-room schoolhouse for two years. Her time teaching was one of her fondest memories. She went on to become a licensed practical nurse and spent her early career in Deloraine, Manitoba. It is here that she met our father, Eldon Edward Kelm.
Mom and Dad were married on September 12th, 1964 and moved to Neepawa, where they welcomed all three of their children.
Our mother was a hard worker all of her life, and she had a career at a time when women were often discouraged from doing so. She was a role model who juggled a career and family, always putting her family before herself every moment of every day.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon Kelm, and her three children Lori (Rick) Doan, Mark (Young-Ran Lee) Kelm, Kristal (Ian) Haalboom and grandchildren Tess Doan, Ari Haalboom, Tate Haalboom, Emma Haalboom, Hannah Kelm, and Sarah Kelm. She is also survived by sister Myrtle Wooldridge; brother Kerry Horn, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Edythe Horn; brothers Glenn Horn and Donald Horn and sister Sharon Horn.
Our mother loved three things in life: new clothes, red lipstick, and ice cream. As per her wishes there will be no service, so we ask you to have an ice cream in her memory.
If you would like to honour our mom in some way our mother told us often that she would want people to make a donation to the Ronald McDonald House charity of their choosing.
