Sidney Alexander Robak

June 5, 1947-July 2, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sidney Alexander Robak, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.

Sidney is survived by his ever loving wife of 46 years, Elaine; his sons, Darryl (Inga) and Jason (Ashley); his beloved grandchildren, Leif, Freyja, and Riot. He is also survived by his sisters, Elaine (Ed) Thompson and Marilyn; his brothers, Ted (Mary), John (Corinne) and Lawrence (Tamara); brothers-in-law Gary Sutherland, Ken (Diane) Sutherland, Brian, and sister-in-law Carol (Robert) Guy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sidney was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Doris and parents-in-law Einar and Florence Sutherland; sisters-in-law, Jayne Sutherland and Sherry Sutherland; niece Stephanie Robak and granddaughter Fijona.

Dad was born and raised in Gilbert Plains where he attended school and worked at the family farm and mechanic shop. After graduation, dad attended Natural Resources school and became an officer. His career took him to many places around Manitoba.  Dad met and married the love of his life, Elaine while stationed in Eriksdale. Together they had 2 sons and eventually settled in Gimli, where dad retired after 36 years, as Superintendent of the Department of Natural Resources in the Interlake.

Upon retirement, dad was an avid member of the Rotary Club of Gimli, where he served a term as President, and was always willing to volunteer his time for the numerous events.

Dad had a love of the outdoors, especially gardening and volunteered for the community gardens.

Dad loved his family above all else and loved spending time with his pride and joys; his grandchildren. Dad was a great cook and always had a meal prepared for anyone who came by. Dad had a love for playing games and was always ready for a challenging game of cards or scrabble against his siblings.

Dad will always be remembered for his wonderful smile, sense of humour and loving nature.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

A celebration of life will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home in Gimli on July 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rotary Club of Gimli or a charity of one’s choice.
