Stanley John Welchinski
February 23, 1931 – July 26, 2019
Peacefully on July 26, 2019 our dad Stanley passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre at the age of 88 years.
Stanley is survived by his children Nicholas, Katherine and Leonard; family dog Loki. His sister Ann; brother Walter (Evelyn) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stanley was predeceased by his wife Ann; son James; parents John and Katie; in-laws Nicholas and Mary Rodych; sisters Rosie and Mary; brothers Mike, Victor and Wallace.
In 1953, Dad built his service station and store known as Welchinski Service in Fraserwood. Then he became an Esso dealer selling gas and oil. He later purchased Cavendish School (the school he went to) and used it as a grocery store, liquor vendor and lottery ticket center. He was also an agent for the Grey Goose Bus Lines and agent for Perth’s Dry Cleaning and also Commissioner of Oaths. He was also selling Bedding plants.
Dad and Mom (Ann Rodych) got married on November 1, 1958. They had four children.
Dad had served on several Boards, Gimli Hospital Board, School Trustee, Chairman of Maplewood Lodge. He was a member of Fraserwood Hall and was also secretary, treasurer and bingo chairperson. He was also a bingo caller in Fraserwood, Gimli and Arborg.
In 1972, he was secretary for Fraserwood Community Cemetery until May 2017. He was sad to give that up due to health reasons.
Dad couldn’t wait for spring to come so that he can get on his gardens to start planting. He also enjoyed cutting grass, you can always see him on his green riding mower going to check the Fraserwood Cemetery or just going uptown. He was sad to give up gardening and cutting grass due to health reasons.
Boiled crab apples were dad’s favourite food, he just loved it. We had to pick lots of crab apples and put it in the freezer.
Cremation has taken place and as per Stanley’s wishes no service will be held.
The family would like to thank you’s all so very much to Dr. R.C. Patel (of 36 years of care), Dr. Jessica Chan (most recent care), all the nurses and staff at Gimli Hospital and Teulon Home Care workers for all the wonderful care you have given to our dad. We really appreciated it.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fraserwood Community Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
