Stella Chorney Obituary

Stella Chorney (nee Kazina)

Surrounded by her boys, Mom passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband John on June 14, 2003. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, David, Harvey (Brenda), and Brian (Brenda); grandchildren, Emily (Len), Meghan, Michael (Shayla), and Sarah (Kyle); and great-grandson Madyx. She is also survived by three sisters, one brother, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was born September 22, 1931 near Tyndall, Manitoba, a middle child of 13 children to Eva and Dmytro. Mom attended Tyndall School and, as a young adult, worked at Eaton’s Warehouse in Winnipeg. However, Mom’s stay in Winnipeg was brief, as her heart was in the country, both with the land and the love of her life, John. They married on October 3, 1953 and began their lifelong passion of farming on the original Chorney homestead. Mom was very active in the community, leading 4H groups while her boys were growing up, and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women’s League. Mom’s passion was her home and her family – no one left her house hungry. In the summer everyone left with a bag full of fresh veggies from her expansive garden, while in the winter she kept the family warm with her beautiful knitted sweaters. We will miss her immensely but are comforted by the fact that she will be joining Dad.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.  in the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in East Selkirk, MB. with Father Joshua Gundrum officiating. A viewing will be held prior to the Mass in the Church. Private family interment will follow in the East Selkirk Cemetery beside John.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Cancer Care Manitoba.
