Stella Mazur Obituary

Stella Mazur

(Nee Radchuk)

It is with sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Stella at the age of 81, on July 24th, 2018 at the Concordia Hospital with Lori by her side.

Predeceased by her husband Edward in 1997 after 40 years of marriage and son Gordon in 1985 at the age of 20. Survived by her daughter; Lori (Claude); granddaughters, Shealyn (Devin), Kerianne (Tyler) and Cassily-Baba’s cookie baker/chauffer; brother John (Cecilia); sisters Grace and Vera (Ed) as well as many nieces, nephews and old friends.

She was also predeceased by her parents Mike and Mary; brothers Bill, Ben and Peter; sisters Anne (Phillip) and Nellie; and nephew Ryan.

Stella was born February 15, 1937 in Swan Plain, Sask. In 1957, she moved to Winnipeg, met and married her husband Edward and they lived on the Mazur Family Farm in Highland Glen for 40 years.

Mom loved her garden, so when she moved to Lockport and it decreased to less than ¼ acre, she felt a hardship.

She now could only make enough pickles and canning for half the neighborhood.

Everyone who knew her, knew of her Salmon colored Geraniums, which were a yearly Spring Must Have. As well, I’m sure since she was a teenager, she told everyone she was 99. The sayings are famous, “been driving for 99 years, I’m 99 years old, 99 years since I was there, I’ve been playing crazy 8’s for 99 years….” The sayings are different to everyone, but everyone knows her famous 99…….

Mom lucked into a wonderful Lockport support system with her new neighbors; a surrogate family. Special thank you to Sharon, Courtney & Brayden Schellenberg for all the love you shared.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gonor, Manitoba. Interment of ashes will follow the Mass in the Parish cemetery.

We’d like to thank the Concordia Hospital Emergency staff, as well as the staff in N1 for their care & compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella’s name to the Concordia Hospital Foundation or Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church (6297 Henderson Hwy, Gonor, MB).
