Ted Neskar Obituary

TEDDY NESKAR

Peacefully on Friday, July 13, 2018 at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Teddy (Ted) Neskar, aged 85 years, went to his eternal rest.

Ted Neskar was born in Selkirk on June 30, 1933 at the family farmhouse, west of the train tracks on Selkirk Avenue.  He was the 4th of 8 children born to Louise and Stanley Neskar. He grew up with his siblings at their home where he contributed to the chores of running a very busy household in a difficult time.

He married the love of his life, Olga Waytowich, “his princess” on June 2, 1956.  They enjoyed 62 wonderful years together raising three children.

He left home at a young age with his brother Walter to find employment in Toronto.  After a short stay, he returned to Selkirk where he began his career in the baking industry.  After working many years for Brown’s Bread he became a franchise owner of Mrs. Willman’s Fine baking with his friend Stan Hnatiuk.

Following retirement Ted worked for a fly-in fishing lodge as the “logistics coordinator”, following which he enjoyed organizing casino tours.

He was a devoted follower of Christ and very involved in the church, serving in many ministries over the years.  He was a proud Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, joining the order in 1975.  Through the years he served in various Executive positions and enjoyed and participated in all Knight’s activities and events.

Ted volunteered for many charitable causes such as Fishing for a Cure, St. Francis Place and Operation Red Nose.

He is survived by his loving wife Olga. Ted adored his three children, Mark (Annette), Ted (Kim), and Susan (Ron) Normand; grandchildren Pamela (David) May, Erin (David) Blacklock, Chris, Curtis (Jessica), Carson (Darien), Scott (Natasha), and Heather as well as great-grandchildren Spencer, Jaycie, Gabriel and Christian May.  Also mourning are his siblings Mary Nicholson, Frank (Pat) Neskar, Carol Trippier and brother-in-law Adrian Verheul.

Ted was predeceased by his parents Stan and Louise, brother Walter and his wife Helen, sister Jennie and her husband Frank Starodub, sister Elizabeth, sister Louise Verheul, brother-in-law Stan Trippier, brother-in-law Les Nicholson and his grandson Jason Neskar.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Parish cemetery.

Pallbearers are his grandkids, Curtis Neskar, Scott Normand, Chris Neskar, Heather Normand, Carson Neskar, and son-in-law David May.

The family would like to thank the staff on the Surgical ward at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their compassionate and loving care provided to dad.

Ted will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends.
