Victor Ingiberg Johnson
1927-2018
Victor passed away peacefully on March 20th at the Arborg Hospital at the age of 90, just 16 days short of his 91st birthday.
He was predeceased by his parents, Adalsteinn and Helga Johnson and brother Louis (Maria) Johnson.
He leaves his children Jocelyn (John), Norma (Rick) and Ivan (Susan); grandchildren Justin (Janelle), Crystal (Andrew), Tyler, Riley, Dana and great-granddaughters Mila and Lilja; sister Dorothy Stansell (Earl) and many nieces and nephews.
Dad was born and raised and spent his life on the homestead of his father and grandfather known as Sydri-Bakki.
He lived life on his own terms. He was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and culture. He loved to tell stories and visit. Many world issues were debated at the kitchen table over a pot of coffee.
One of his greatest pleasures was the outdoors and time spent hunting, especially with grandson Tyler and his other buddies.
“Good old Grandpa” shot his last deer at the age of 89. The hunting stories will live on and the memories and good times will stay with his friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the generous and supportive community of extended family, friends and neighbours – too numerous to mention – whose kindness went above and beyond over the years, helping him to remain in his home.
We would also like to thank the many Home Care workers and nurses for their kind and caring attention. Also, the wonderful nursing staff at the Arborg Hospital and Dr. Donelly for his many years of dedicated care.
And, thanks to our very special “angel” Shirley. Always there and always caring. Little Henry thanks you too.
In keeping with Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a family memorial service will take place at a later date.
A quote hanging in Dad’s kitchen tells it all.
“I grew up on this land, it’s where my grandfather and father lived. The more power to people if they want to move, but being here is part of me and I don’t think I can live anywhere else.”
