WALTER SALUK
While surrounded by his loving family, dad left us peacefully on July 1, 2019 at the Selkirk Regional Health Center to be reunited with the love of his life, best friend and wife of 56 years, Madeline. Left to cherish his memory are his children Greg (Erin), Darlene (Rodney), Garry (Monica) and Brad (Sandi). Gigi was blessed with his grandchildren, Cara (Jamie), Kristin (Jeff), Courtney (Brett), Kiersten (Makar), Amy (Zee), Cindy, Logan and great-grandchildren Ty, Jaya, Anna, Everson, Ellie and Marek. He is survived by his brothers Eddy (Clara), Don, sisters-in-law Irene (Alphonse), Helen, Margaret, brother-in-law Eddy (Irene) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Mary, parents-in-law Peter and Anne, sister Jean (Joe), brother Henry (Eleanor), sisters-in-law Jean (Alec), Elvie, brothers-in-law Walter and Rudy.
Dad was born March 3, 1931 and lived his early life in Tyndall and Ladywood. He was a very hard worker and jack of all trades. He started working on the family farm as a young boy and went to cut pulp at the bush camp when he was 15. Later he delivered fuel oil for Marshalls and milk for Lakeland Dairies all while he was farming the Sandhills. In 1967, dad accepted a position at the Selkirk Mental Health Center and later opened Saluk’s Small Engine Repair. In 1954, dad married mom and together they raised us in loving homes in Selkirk and East Selkirk. He enjoyed his years farming, hunting, gardening and yardworking. In retirement, he took pleasure in woodworking and restoring antique tractors. Dad was a very strong, determined and compassionate man. Gigi was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed their special events.
Our family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Selkirk Regional Health Center and Homecare for their dedication and compassionate care. Respecting dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. A private family interment will take place after the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Forever remembered, forever loved.
Forever in our hearts.
Vichnaya Pam'yat.
