Obituary

A. Robert Baird

Peacefully, Andrew Robert Baird passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 90 years of age, in Selkirk, Manitoba.

Born October 26, 1934, to parents Charles Baird and Lillian Beck, Bob grew up in Northern Manitoba. He spoke fondly of the area, particularly Sherridon, Lynn Lake, and Laurie River. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Arts from Bemidji State University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba.

Bob taught for 34 years in the Seven Oaks School Division; the last several years as the coordinator for technology and applied arts. He was so proud of “his” teachers and the many students he was privileged to teach.

Left to mourn Bob’s passing are his wife, and best friend, Julie (Riese); son Darren, and his children; close grandson Kirk Calder (Nicole McIntosh); and sister Joyce (Brook) Adams.  Bob was predeceased by his first wife Patricia (Bailey); daughter Andrea; and brothers Bill, Walter, and Gordon.

Bob loved his five acres in the bush! Not one to travel far (although he did visit all the provinces, except PEI), he preferred to stay close to home. In retirement, Bob frequented the local coffee shops, checked out the crops, and dropped in on neighbours. Always one to voice his opinion, Bob carved out his own path in life.

Special thanks to the staff at Betel Personal Care Home for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Bob in the past three and a half years – truly wonderful caregivers!

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to Bob’s favourite charity, the Salvation Army, 203 – 290 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, R3B 2N8, or a charity of choice.
