Adam Markwart Obituary

Adam Markwart

On April 7th, 2026 we lost our beloved Adam at the age of 31. Adam leaves to mourn him his parents, Elaine and Roy Markwart, his siblings Sarah Rogers (Mike Rogers), nephews Eric (Shyanne), Braeden (Lex) and Isaac, and niece Ava, and Rebekah Taylor (Ed Taylor), nephew Darrion, and nieces Olivia and Emily, his cherished children Aubrey and Bjorn Markwart, Lenae, Grace, Beckham, and Legacy Peebles, as well as the love of his life Ashley King, along with countless aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Adam was predeceased by his grandparents, Marie and Albert Geurts, and Herbert and Doris Markwart, his uncles Joe Willard, Ed Swirsky, Greg Gilbert, and Russ Markwart, and his cousins Dylan David, Cheryl Weiss, and Jade Markwart. We take peace in knowing that he is with those loved ones again in the arms of our saviour, Jesus Christ.

Adam blessed his family as a late edition in October of 1994. He was a firecracker from the start, full of energy and life. Once Adam learned to talk, he started and never stopped. He had so much to tell us all, often while running laps around the living room to burn off the abundance of energy he had. As a toddler and young child, he could memorize commercials, lines from movies, facts about fighter jets, and would change into multiple costumes a day, playing make believe games for hours. Once he could walk, he was impossible to put down for a nap, so we would often find him napping in amongst his toys when he couldn’t hold sleep at bay any longer.

Adam had many interests and explored those interests with passion; learning everything about them and seeking to excel in them. He showed promise as a young athlete, entering Tae-kwon-do at the age of 6, and blowing everyone away with his flexibility and easy movements. Adam played hockey for the East Selkirk Sabres as a young child and continued to play until high school. As soon as he was old enough Adam signed up for Cadets, wore his uniform proudly, and dove into learning everything he could about army infantry. He also developed a love of dirt-biking as well as going on motorcycle rides with his father.

At the age of 11, Adam picked up guitar and immediately revealed himself to be a true protégé with a natural ear. He was a Bonafide lead guitarist and could listen to a song on the radio once, then pick up his guitar and play it. Adam enjoyed playing Rugby in high school and graduated at the age of 17, making his family proud.

After an unexpected turn in his early adulthood, Adam worked hard to re-take control of his life; going to Red River College to pursue a career as a sheet metal worker. During that same period, he entered a serious relationship with Taylor Johnson, and welcomed his beautiful daughter, Aubrey, in 2018.

In 2020, Adam met the love of his life, Ashley. The pair fell madly in love, quickly blending their families together. Ashley was Adam’s home, his safety-haven, and his greatest love aside from his children. When Ashley and her children entered Adam’s life, he was determined to love her children as his own and felt proud to be a father-figure to them. In 2022, Adam and Ashley completed their family by welcoming their son, Bjorn.

It was in fatherhood that Adam found his greatest purpose. During his most difficult times, Adam’s children could bring forth a joy in his eyes that was incomparable. Whether it was a family outing to the Pumpkin Patch or simply sitting on the couch watching one of his favourite movies, Adam’s love for his family was present.

Throughout his life, Adam loved to make others laugh, even if it meant doing or saying something outrageous. If you didn’t hear what he’d said, and only heard him laugh, you could tell how inappropriate it was based upon the sort of chortle that followed. Adam never lost his playful spirit, often wielding his light sabres in the living room, or putting on his wolf fur to showcase his love for everything Viking.

Adam will be missed beyond measure, his memories cherished and his children adored in his absence.

A memorial service will be held in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk on May 1st, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
