Albert Christopher Self
February 26, 1948 - July 12, 2025
With loved ones by his side, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Albert.
Albert is survived by his wife Beverley, daughters Alberta (Anthony) and Rebecca (Misha), grandchildren Sofía, Adrian, Alek, Kalyna, Kasey and Jordie plus great-grandchildren, Tomi, Ridge, Ryatt and Wrenley, his brother Robert (Sherry), and many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, Chris, his parents, Reg and Lil, and his nephew, Jason.
Albert was born in Russell, Manitoba and loved the hills of Millwood where he grew up, helping his father farm and going hunting.
Albert worked 35 years with the federal government in various departments, ending his career with Veterans Affairs Canada as the Regional Director of Human Resources. He made many good friends throughout his career and was well respected for the man he was. Before he retired, Albert wrote a ‘Friday Thought’ each week that was widely shared and greatly enjoyed.
Albert always said it was easier to be kind, and that was how he lived. He was a compassionate man who was always willing to help others. You could count on him to have a smile on his face and a joke to share. His sense of humour and wit have left happy memories with everyone who knew him.
Albert was recently challenged with mobility struggles and was not able to get out often, but he always enjoyed his visits with family and friends, and the weekly get togethers with his buddies at The Roadhouse.
Albert wore many hats in his lifetime; loving son, brother, husband, father and papa, successful leader, true blue Bomber fan, chef, chauffeur, joker, storyteller, friend, and life of the party. Through work and travel, he made connections across the country. He was wise and patient, and looked to for his advice and open-mindedness.
Albert enjoyed the simple moments and pleasures in his life. His presence and smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We are sad that he is gone, but so happy that he lived.
Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life was held. The celebration can be viewed via the following link https://youtu.be/AD4q05WxnS4
