Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Allan (Al) Witzke on January 30, 2025, at Golden Links Lodge at the age of 82.

Al was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Sharyn Witzke and son Sean Witzke, father and mother Ottoman and Olga, brothers Edwin, Gordon, and Rick, parents-in-law Stephen and Pearl Antymis, brothers-in-law Gerald and Eugene Antymis and Peter Kozak and sister-in-law Vicky Witzke.  He leaves to mourn his partner Diane Schimnowski, son Scott Witzke (Kim), daughter Nicole Skiba (Prez), daughter-in-law Patti Witzke, sisters Myrtle Shewaga (Romey) and Marge Aitkenhead (George), grandchildren Tyler, Dylan and Bo Witzke, and Samantha and Natalia Skiba, brother and sisters-in-law Bonnie Witzke, Alexis Antymis, Jennifer Antymis, Terry Kozak, and Neil Antymis (Leslie) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Al was born in 1942 in Golden Bay, Manitoba. Growing up in Green Bay, Manitoba, he discovered his passion for carpentry and began building a remarkable legacy.

In 1962, Al earned his carpentry certificate and contributed to many significant projects in Winnipeg and throughout Western Canada. His craftsmanship shone through in the construction of the Norwood Bridge in Winnipeg, Deer Lodge Centre, Stoney Mountain Penitentiary, Winnipeg East End Wastewater Treatment Plant, Brandon Music Building, and various courthouses, jails, government buildings, and personal care homes.

Al was married to Sharyn, the love of his life, for 31 wonderful years until she passed away in 1996. Despite this loss, the Antymis family continued to embrace Al as a cherished member.

Above all, Al was a devoted family man. His three children, Scott, Sean, and Nicole, were his pride and joy. One of his most cherished accomplishments was designing and building his family home in St. Andrews.

Al spent many joyful hours with his siblings, Edwin, Gordon, Richard, Marge, and Myrtle, and their spouses. He also loved fishing, gardening, playing cards, curling, and working in his shop. Al was always there to fix everything his kids managed to break.

In his later years, Al shared a devoted partnership with Diane, who spent many hours with him during his time of need. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and quiet times together.

Al's social nature made him a familiar face wherever he went, whether it was Disneyland, Mexico, or Hawaii. His love for his grandchildren was boundless, often joking that if he had known grandchildren were so much fun, he would have had them first.

Al’s legacy as a skilled carpenter, loving father, and beloved family member will forever be remembered by those who knew him.

A funeral service to celebrate Al’s life was held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Clements Anglican Church, south of Selkirk, MB. The service can be viewed via the following link: https://youtu.be/UWVHrt65-0s
