Anita Rose Carroll
With grief and sadness, Anita’s family announces her sudden passing on June 21, 2020 in Selkirk, Manitoba, at the age of 64. Anita was born July 7, 1955, in Selkirk, the youngest and only girl of Isabell who named her, as her last rose of summer.
Throughout her life Anita possessed rare strength, determination and scrappiness, which may have come from having four older brothers. These traits defined her for her whole life, including her relentless battle with Lupus and Scleroderma. She beat these diseases in the sense that the doctors gave her 5 years to live but she made it 40 years
Anita grew up and went to school in Selkirk. Through her younger and school years Anita was very active in many sports, such as volleyball and basketball. She then earned her degree in pharmacy at the University of Manitoba. She practised in pharmacies in Selkirk, Norway House and Winnipeg Beach before leaving the province to work doing locums in various stores in Ontario and New Brunswick.
Around age 40, Anita finally relented and left the work she enjoyed so much and went on disability leave. She returned home to Selkirk where she went back to live with Mom, with whom she had always shared a very special bond. She was devoted to caring for “Ma” until her passing 7 years ago. Anita was very involved with the United Church in Selkirk and was a frequent volunteer visitor at senior residences in Selkirk. She enjoyed the ladies’ Mah-jong and walking groups.
Anita hated the cold and loved to travel, particularly to warm spots in winter. Over the years, she travelled through Australia and Europe and also took Mom on many trips to South America, the Caribbean, Fiji and across Canada, to name a few. In recent years, she enjoyed cruises with her sister-in-law Ilona.
Anita had many nieces and nephews, and as their young aunt, she took on the responsibility of teaching them many extracurricular life lessons (some of which their parents didn’t learn about until years later). She loved them and deeply enjoyed her time with them. They, with their families; Kevin and Anita, Kelly and Tracy, Kimberly and Matt, Kyle and Denise, Kristy and Darren, Kody and Kristine, Ryan and Nathan, and Catherine and Michael, in turn, miss her greatly, as does her beloved buddy, Gray, the cat.
Anita gained many friends over the years and we got to know them through her many stories involving them. She was well-loved for her sense of humour and down-to-earth energy.
Anita was pre-deceased by her brother Wendell in 2007, niece Renee in 2012, mother Isabell in 2013 and sister-in-law Louise in 2015.
She is sadly missed by brothers Ed, Brandon, MB; George, Selkirk, MB; Ken, Winnipeg, MB and sisters-in-law Judi Carroll, Ilona Carroll, Carol James and Jess Cabbab.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date to be determined. Please watch for a further announcement in this newspaper.
