Anna Wark (nee Benedictson) Obituary

Anna Claire Wark

(nee Benedictson)

October 27th, 1932 – July 31, 2020

Surrounded by love, our dear Mom,  Amma,  Lang Amma, sister, auntie and friend passed away peacefully at Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

Anna leaves to cherish her memory, her son Tom (Diane) and their sons Jason (Kleigh), Cole (Jazlyn) and Ryan (Sarah), her daughter Erin (Greg) and their daughters Cara (Jamie) and Kristin (Jeff), her daughter Wendy (Denis) and their children Colin (Jessica), Kyle (Melissa) and Kelsie (Tanner), her daughter Lyle-Lynn (Norm) and their son Brett and her daughter Sherry (Tim) and their sons Brayden (Miranda) and Connor, and her treasured great-grandchildren Ty, Jaya, Everson, Anna, Ellie, Marek, Bria, Ivy, Odin and Skylar.  She is survived by her brother Gibby Benedictson (Fran), her sisters-in-law Sella Benedictson and Joyce Benedictson and her brother-in-law John Wark (Darlene) and many adored nieces and nephews.  Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years Freddie, parents Valdi and Freda Benedictson, mother-in-law and father-in-law Marion and Jack Wark, her brothers Allan, Donnie and Rayme Benedictson, sisters-in-law Kay Ross, Betty Fox and Norma Wark and brothers-in-law Roy Ross, Rolly Fox, her nephews Terry Fox, Jeff Wark, Wayne Ross and niece Norma Rae Tilbury.

Mom was born in Riverton and raised in a loving Icelandic home. She was the youngest child of Freda and Valdi and adored by all, especially her 4 older brothers. She was a natural athlete and a tomboy who was always trying to keep up with her big brothers. She was a talented figure skater and excellent fastball player who played on a competitive women’s fastball team in her younger years.  Through baseball she met the love of her life, Freddie.  On June 4, 1955 mom married our dad and together they lovingly raised their five children. Dad’s job with MTS had them moving to various towns across rural Manitoba, finally settling in Selkirk. Mom was devoted to her family and proud of all of their accomplishments. There was no place she would rather be than to be surrounded by her precious family.  Her hands were always busy, from knitting to baking or canning, she was an expert at all and she happily passed on these skills to many. She was blessed with a gift of music and loved to play the piano for us.  As her family grew she was delighted to spend time with and care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending as many activities and events as possible. Mom was the heart of our family and we all are inspired to be better people because of her influence.  Mom was a kind and gentle person with the most beautiful heart who was loved by all who knew her.

There will be a private family service due to provincial COVID restrictions.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Selkirk Evangelical Lutheran Church or CancerCare Manitoba.  The family would like to thank the staff of the Selkirk Betel Home who took special care of mom, and sincere thanks to Dr. Brown, Dr. Demsas and all of the supportive staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Hard working hands at rest,

It broke our hearts to see you go,

God only takes the best.

They say that memories are golden,

Well maybe that is true,

But we never wanted memories,

We only wanted you.

Your life was love and labour,

Your love for your family true,

You did your best for all of us,

We will always remember you.

We sat beside your bedside,

Our hearts were crushed and sore,

We did our duty to the end,

‘Til we could do no more.

In tears we watched you sinking,

We watched you fade away,

And though our hearts were breaking,

We knew you could not stay.

Our lips cannot speak how we loved you,

Our hearts cannot tell what to say,

But God only knows how we miss you,

In our home that is lonely today.

Forever in our hearts,

We will miss you dearly Mamma, Amma, Lang Amma,

Goda Nott Elskan.
