Obituary

Annemarie Aldinger

(née Schneider)

August 13, 1925 – December 12, 2025

Annemarie (Mariechen) was born in Korntal, Bessarabia (Romania) to Daniel and Else Schneider. Mariechen grew up on the family farm with five brothers, Karl, Richard, Daniel, Erich and Walter. She carried happy memories of this time throughout her life. Beginning in 1940, the family endured many hardships due to the Second World War. Demonstrating great courage and strength, she adapted to each situation they encountered and arrived in Germany at the wars end.

Annemarie met Karl when she was 19 and they were married in Schorndorf, Germany on September 10th, 1949. In 1951, they immigrated to Canada with their daughter Gerlinde to begin a new life. They settled in Lockport, Manitoba where they soon welcomed three more children, Fritz, Erika and Karin. While Karl spent long hours establishing his construction business in the early years, Mama tirelessly put her farming and homemaking skills to work. In 1976, they built a home with their son on Little Britain Road on the first piece of farmland they owned. Throughout the years family, friendships, trips to visit family in Germany and vacations to Hawaii were treasured.

Mariechen was predeceased by her beloved husband Karl in 2016. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Gerlinde (Ron), Fritz (Barbara), Erika and Karin: her 12 grandchildren: Eric (Nancy), Signe (Andrew), Kirsten (Nick), Friedrich (Jen), Bentz, Daniel (Joanna), Andrea (Josh), Thomas (Andraea), Michael (Andrée), Sabina, Kristian (Anna-Laure) and Hannah; and 15 great grandchildren: Oskar, Klaus and Bay, Elin and Lena, Anya and Gisela, Heidi and Tavin, AnneMarie and Axel, Hawksley and Stellan, Ulrich, Atticus (and another on the way). Oma named each member of her family in prayer every night.

She was a great storyteller, and we marveled at her exceptional memory of dates and details going back to her childhood. Family visits to Mama’s house in earlier years always featured coffee, delicious baking and cooking with many recipes still used throughout the family today. She enjoyed playing dominoes with all three generations of her family until her final weeks and still winning without any help. We were blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday with all three generations of family in attendance.

After her husband Karl passed in 2016, Mama was able to live out her life in her home with the assistance of her son Fritz and his family as well as many visits from all her family members. The steadfast faith which sustained her throughout her life gave her the certainty she would be reunited with loved ones. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace in her eternal home. She would always say, “ich bin dankbar.” We are so thankful for her example, wisdom, love and the spirit she shared with us.

As per her wishes, a private family gathering and interment of ashes will take place at a later date.
