Antonio Tomei Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Antonio Tomei, 78 of Winnipeg Manitoba, with his family by his side on July 19th 2026.
Born on January 13, 1948 he was the proud son of Mario and Ines Tomei. Antonio grew up in the town of Capistrello, Italy, getting into mischief and really enjoyed playing the beautiful game of soccer with all his countless friends. He started working at the young age of 16 repairing cars. This was his other passion. He eventually immigrated to Canada when he was 17.
Antonio spent 57 years working as a mechanic at a few different places, most notably Ace Auto, Allied Auto and eventually Maxim Truck where he was forced to retire at the young age of 73 for medical reasons. This did not go over well for him as he loved working especially with the crew he was with in the last 10 years. It was hard for him to let go.
Antonio loved watching pretty much all sports. You could catch him watching anything from motor sports to tennis, wrestling, football, hockey and his beloved soccer. He could name almost any player from any team in the Serie A league. In his younger years Antonio was coaching soccer for his sons league. Some say his methods could be considered questionable but he was really just passionate about the game.
Antonio is lovingly remembered by his children, Ines Tomei (David) and Mario Tomei (Carey) and his cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Daniel, Syndel, Lydon, Sebastian, Tianna, Lee, Seth, Mara and Marlo and his great grandchildren Emmett, Koen and Lucian. He is also survived by his siblings Santina, Silvano, Doriana and Endrius and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins from all over the world. From Australia, France, Germany, Ukraine and the USA. Also including his best friend of over 50 years and partner in crime Luigi D'avanti (Uncle Gino) Antonio was preceded in death by his father Mario, mother Ines and his son Anthony.
