Arthur Macholz Obituary

In Memoriam: Arthur Eric Macholz

October 21, 1936 - January 10, 2024

We are sad to inform friends and family of the peaceful passing of Arthur in Selkirk, Manitoba, at the venerable age of 87. Art's departure on January 10, 2024, has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Arthur was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as the youngest child to Friedrich Macholz and Regine Hartwig. He is predeceased by his sisters, Freda, Ella and Lydia Macholz.

Arthur was born on a brisk autumn day in 1936—a year that would usher in a man of disciplined demeanor who had great personal faith in God.

Art's summers were often spent at his beloved cottage—a place of tranquility and escape. It was here he could immerse himself in the serene beauty of nature, recharging in the embrace of the soothing sun and tranquil waters. The close-knit communities of Peguis First Nation, Hodgson and Fisher Branch will fondly remember Arthur for his ready smile and his eagerness to engage in conversation over a cup of coffee. His sociable nature made him a cherished neighbor and friend.

Professionally, Arthur was the proud owner of the reputable Chevrier Radiator based in Winnipeg, where he provided invaluable expertise and service to his clientele. His professional legacy is remembered as one of dedication, integrity, and hard work.

During his brave struggle with illness, The Betel Care Home proved an inestimable source of care and comfort. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to their compassionate staff for their unflagging support throughout Art's journey.

Arthur leaves behind a loving tapestry of family who will continue to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Bernice; her three children Randy McKenzie (Marlene),  Cheryl McKenzie and Tim McKenzie, and their families, including their cherished grandson Colin (Jeanine) Cook; as well as his two children, Khristine King (David) and Aaron Macholz (Catherine) and his two cherished grandchildren, Braydon and Mitch (Hilary) Semeniuk from a previous marriage. Each of them reflects a facet of his spirit and will carry forward his legacy.

According to his wishes, Arthur was cremated. In the spring, a gathering to celebrate his life will be orchestrated among the verdant grounds of Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg—a time for family to reflect and remember his life.

Art Macholz may have concluded his earthly journey, but his stories, laughter, and the impressions he left on our souls will continue to resonate. We say farewell to Art, whose essence will forever animate the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.

R.I.P. Arthur
