Barbara Alyn Ruth Rapson
(nee Lyon)
July 21, 1952 - October 10, 2025
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Rapson.
Barbara is survived by her children Ryan, Dianne, Carolyn (Ryan Wong), Ashley (Kevin Burr), her grandchildren, Lexi Rapson, David Burr and Jaxx Rapson and her beloved cat Bella.
She leaves behind a brother, David Lyon of Vancouver/Calgary, and two sisters, Eloise Lyon (Glenn Campbell) of Winnipeg, MB and Janice Lyon (Gord Penner) of Lockport, MB.
She was predeceased by her loving husband David Lloyd Rapson, and her parents Gerald and Mary Lyon.
Barb spent most of her life in Winnipeg, attending Grosvenor, River Heights, Kelvin and then the University of Manitoba. She was married in 1975 and completed her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 1976. She began her career as a staff nurse at Deer Lodge hospital then accepted a position as a nurse clinician in Brandon where they lived for three years. Upon their return to Winnipeg, Barb worked in a number of roles, including nursing instructor and later as a health centre nurse at the RRCC. She continued to further her academic skill set, focusing on Occupational Health and Safety. In retirement, she lent her talents to Spinal Cord Injury of Manitoba, (previously the Canadian Paraplegic Association of Canada).
Barb enjoyed some travel but nothing could be more special to her than her time at the cottage in Minaki, Ontario. As a child she spent the entire summer at the lake and in her teens, worked at Minaki and Holst Point Lodges.
Barb had many talents. In her younger days she played the piano and swam competitively. Later she took up knitting and was also a wonderful seamstress, cook and gardener.
Barb was very special to many people and she will be forever in our hearts.
