Bjorgvin (Beggie) Anderson Obituary

Bjorgvin (Beggie) Anderson

January 1, 1931- January 2, 2022

Our beloved father Beggie passed away peacefully, one day after his 91st birthday.

Beggie will be lovingly remembered by his four kids Grant (Tracy), Blaine (Svetlana), Shianne (Carl) and Kevin (Lynn). Afi will be missed by his grandchildren, of whom he was so proud: Nathan, Leah, Julia, Schuyler, Alex, Max, Jakob, Bryndís, Kristján, and Erin. He is survived by his brother Martin (Barbara) Anderson and a host of in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces, with whom he enjoyed keeping in touch. Beggie was predeceased by his wife of nearly 65 years, Josephine, his parents Magnus and Rannveig Anderson, grandson Craig, sisters Rose, Dora, Kristin, Doreen, Margaret, Lillian and brothers Magnus, Harold, Oli, and many dear in-laws.

Beggie was born on the family farm near Riverton, and often regaled us with memories of growing up in that big loving family. He married his ‘little red-coat’ Josephine Hokanson on October 29, 1955 and they lived happily together until her passing in June, 2020. He missed her terribly and we’re grateful they are together again.

Dad was self-employed most of his working life, and worked away from home a lot. He was a self-taught engineer at heart despite a grade 9 education and had incredible skills in designing and building just about anything he could imagine.  His company Cheyenne Construction took on excavation, drainage, roadbuilding and property development work, and was highly respected in the business. He taught his sons how to operate various heavy machinery and these skills served them well. He could fix almost anything, worked with wood or metal as the project needed, and took pride in contributing to community projects in his retirement.

Working with heavy equipment damaged his hearing and he was an early recipient of a cochlear implant. This gave him more years of visiting with people, one of his and mom’s favourite pastimes. They thought nothing of taking a quick trip with their trailer anywhere to visit family or friends. Dad kept up with technology and would spend hours looking up things that interested him or keep in touch with family via email and messaging. He loved music and could pick out a tune on any instrument he picked up.

Beggie was a kind and generous man and helped many people with whatever they needed – sometimes money, sometimes mentorship, and sometimes some serious motivation to change their lives for the better.

The family would like to thank our cousin Tracey Finnson, who was so good to dad and to us in these difficult past 18 months. The staff at the Arborg Personal Care Home took great care of Dad and we are grateful to all of them.

Cremation has taken place and Beggie will be buried “when the weather is better” as per his request. When numbers permit, we will celebrate both of our parents’ lives with a grand gathering of family and friends.
