Brandur Curtis Wur (Gudbrandur Gudbrandsson)
February 7, 1983 – August 19, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Brandur Curtis Wur (Gudbrandur Gudbrandsson) announces his sudden and tragic passing on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the age of 42.
Brandur will be forever lovingly remembered by his three beloved children: Izzy, Solstice, and Raven; his parents, Jill and Rob; brother Brett (Vanessa) and nephew Kolsen; and his cherished Aunties and Uncles: Wendy and Murray Roscoe, Dean and Kim Goodbrandson (cousins Riley and Annika (Spencer)), and Mick and Pat Wur (cousins Teddy (Sasha) and Joey (Christine)). He will also be dearly missed by longtime friends Dean Gunnarson, Kevin Christiansen, Nelson Gerrard, and Sean Dornbush.
He was predeceased by his loving grandparents, Beverley and Brandur (Lefty) Goodbrandson, and Hildred Wur.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Brandur most recently resided in Gimli, MB. Over the course of his life, he lived in Dawson Creek, BC; The Narrows; Winnipeg; and Laurier, MB. He was immensely proud of his Icelandic heritage as a second-generation Canadian, the great grandson of immigrants Elfrieder and Gudbrandur Gudbrandsson. Living in Gimli—a hub of Icelandic culture—brought him joy and connection to his roots.
A passionate athlete, Brandur was actively involved in sports throughout his life. His family celebrated his achievements with Selkirk Junior B Hockey, as well as Selkirk Royals Varsity Basketball and Volleyball, where he excelled both as a player and as an assistant coach alongside Marco Morelli, coaching his younger brother Brett.
In recent years, Brandur rekindled his love for golf, dedicating himself to the game with renewed focus and enthusiasm. He was immensely proud to qualify for the 3rd flight at the 2025 Tamarack Golf Tournament in Clear Lake, MB—a significant milestone shared with his brother Brett, Uncle Dean, Afi (Lefty) and Dad (Rob), all of whom had competed in the tournament as Cubs, Juniors, and in the Mens division. It was a tradition deeply cherished by the family.
Brandur also had a passion for the arts and drama, performing in the school play and fashion show during high school and later participating in Winnipeg’s Fringe Festival. His love of magic, nurtured by mentor and close friend Dean Gunnarson, remained a joyful part of his life.
He found meaning and connection in his work, including time spent on Nelson’s farm in Riverton, MB. An animal lover, Brandur had a deep bond with his dogs, Bear and Moose, his cats, fish, and bearded dragon.
Family time was at the heart of Brandur’s life. He treasured moments spent at the Wur family cabin in Grand Beach and looked forward every year to the Wur Family Golf Tournament. Becoming an uncle to Kolsen brought him immense pride and joy—he was devoted to being the best friend and uncle possible.
Brandur worked for a time as an Educational Assistant in the Lord Selkirk School Division but soon discovered his true passion as an entrepreneur in home renovations and tiling. Brandur and his tiling skills were featured in an article in the TileLetter Magazine. His meticulous craftsmanship was admired by many—especially by his Auntie Wendy and Uncle Murray, who proudly showcased his work in their home.
Above all else, Brandur’s deepest love and purpose in life was his children: Izarah Sage, Asta Solstice Beverley, and Gudbrandur Thunder Raven. Every moment spent with them—walking in nature, exploring festivals, fishing, golfing, watching movies, swimming, or simply being together—was precious to him. These were the moments he lived for.
Our family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time. Special thanks goes out to the Tamarack Committee for their care, respect and professionalism. We would like to also recognize the courage of those fellow golfers who tried to save Brandur.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the GoFundMe page created by his friend and golf buddy, Douglas Stinchcombe, in support of Brandur’s three children.
