Cameron “Cam” Edward Carter
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Cameron “Cam” Edward Carter on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 49.
Cam was born on September 13, 1976, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up in the city he loved and attended Vincent Massey Collegiate. His early career included Tony’s Pizza before joining a business venture at Cue Club, a place where his love for people and pool truly shined. After moving to Gimli, he worked at Brennivins Pizza Hus, owned by his close friend Dave Strachan, and also spent time commercial fishing on Lake Winnipeg.
Cam was proud to serve the community as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Gimli Fire Department. He completed firefighting courses and advanced training in Brandon and held those accomplishments close to his heart.
Most of all, Cam was proud of his career with CP Rail. He worked hard toward his goal of becoming an engineer and was actively taking courses to get there. He was genuinely excited for his future with the railway and found a strong sense of purpose in that work.
Sports played a major role in Cam’s life. He loved baseball and spent many summers swinging his heart out, always ready for game day. In rec hockey and golf, he brought energy and laughter wherever he showed up. And in the pool community, Cam was a legend. There were countless unforgettable nights, big wins, and louder laughs. The pool world will never be the same without him.
His smile was infectious, and he had a way of making every moment feel bigger, brighter, and better simply by being there.
Cam was predeceased by his parents, Joyce and Bob Carter, and his half-brother Rick Neibel.
He is survived by his beloved son Dillon, who was his greatest joy and purpose in life, and by Dillon’s mother Crystal Collard, who remained a loyal friend and partner in cheering on Dillon’s hockey journey and accomplishments. He is also survived by his sister Bonnice Iwasiuk, nephews Derek (Anita) and Kevin and their children, extended family including Lana Harrison, Russell (Trina) Neibel, and Desiree Smorhay.
Cam leaves behind an incredible group of close friends who loved him like a brother: Grant Hjorleifson, Dwayne Arnason, Dave Strachan, Grant Binda, Russell Dann, Tracey Aultman, and Blair Chudd. Their memories, stories, and laughs shared with Cam will be treasured forever.
From His Son, Dillon
Dillon was his anchor. Their connection was unbreakable. Dillon will forever cherish their trips to Vancouver and Victoria Island to see killer whales, cheering at Jets games, early summer mornings golfing together, their road trips to hockey tournaments, and long talks in the car that never ran out of things to say.
He loved their Brennivins dinner runs, beach days, campfires, late nights in the hot tub, movie nights, and traveling across Canada together. Wherever they went, being together was what mattered most.
Dillon says, “He was such a good dad. He tried to give me the world whenever he could and made me a happy kid. I loved him so much.”
Cam will be remembered for his big heart, his mischievous grin, and the way he could brighten a room simply by walking into it.
A celebration of Cam’s life will be announced once arrangements are finalized. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk. Those wishing to honour Cam’s memory may share their condolences and prayers through the funeral home.
“Love you Dad, always.” - Dillon
