Carol Casemore Obituary

The family of Carol Casemore would like to announce her passing on July 2, 2021. Fittingly on one of the hot Manitoba days she loved. Carol was born and raised in Selkirk and even though she lived in many places across the country, Selkirk was home and she eventually came back to stay.  Home is where she met her love, Harry Casemore and home is where her heart always was as it was where her family was.  When Carol was moved to a nursing home in Winnipeg to be closer to her daughter Alexis she could often be found with her belongings packed waiting for someone to take her home. She enjoyed her home in Winnipeg much better when her mother, aged 107, was transferred from Selkirk and they became the first mother and daughter duo to live there together.  You could often find them there laughing with each other, bickering, doing crafts, looking for their purses, bickering some more and eating sweets.

Carol loved her family and friends, scorekeeping ladies fastball, camping, telling people her opinions, doing crossword puzzles, going to the beach, and any type of event held at the Selkirk Legion.  There she could be found drinking scotch and giving mostly unsolicited advice about what constituted acceptable legion behaviour. She held a number of legion executive positions and was especially proud of being President and becoming a life member.  She also enjoyed her job as a home care worker where she would always go above and beyond for her clients.  She became very close friends with her clients as she was a larger than life personality.

Carol was always up for anything whether it was dressing up in matching ponchos with Alexis, making cherished memories travelling with her special friend Victor Flett, dressing up for Halloween (one of her favorite holidays) for a Legion event or being Alexis’s date to the movies.  She would often start off at the movies with saying "what movie is this again?" and then promptly fall asleep after she ate her popcorn and then happily say what a good movie it was even though she watched ten minutes of it. She was always up to do anything even last minute.  All she needed was five minutes to throw some pants on and grab her purse and she was in.  She also loved family holidays and spending time with her brothers, cousins and their extended families.  She particularly enjoyed the times when her beloved granddaughter Cassandra would take her out for one of their long walks or out for something to eat where she would always order something sweet no matter what the meal.  The Selkirk Fair and Rodeo/Parade/Beef on a Bun at the Legion was one of Carol’s favourite weekends of the year which she often enjoyed from Thursday (pre-game) to Sunday.  To her this was like Christmas/New Year/Halloween all rolled into one.

Carol was extremely honest and loyal to a fault.  If you wanted someone to lie to you if you were wearing something that may not look good on you, she was not the person to ask.  She was however the person to ask if you wanted the absolute truth.  For those Carol loved she would be loyal for life and would have your back and then some.  She didn't care if this meant making a scene in her loved one's honor or adding to her list of places she is banned from if they won't take her loved ones return.

To know Carol was to love her.  She was unapologetically herself and you always knew where you stood with Carol and if you didn't she would tell you, numerous times and then again later in case you forgot.  She also had one of those smiles that could light up the room and a laugh that was infectious.  Her sense of humour and antics through the years will keep us remembering her with a smile for many years to come.

Carol was predeceased by her loving husband Harry, parents Leslie (Chappie) and Olive Adams, brother Larry and brother-in-law Norm. She is survived by her daughter Alexis (John who always made her laugh), son Robert, much loved grandchildren Cassandra (Josh who always made her smile) and Joshua. She is also survived by her brothers Leslie (Judi), Dennis (Patty) and sister-in-law Cheryl, along with many beloved nieces and nephews and a large extended family who she loved with all her heart and then some.

Carol’s family would like to thank all the staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Home for the excellent care she received over the last few years. The Covid lockdown was especially tough on Carol and we are glad she is finally at peace and is now with her beloved Harry.

As per Carol’s wishes a cremation has taken place. Since Carol loved a good funeral we will be holding one she would be proud of when all her friends and family can be there to give her the big send-off she deserves. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
