CHARLES HENRY PORQUET

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles (Porky) Porquet of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the age of 88.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Delores; sons Wayne and Darin (Diane) Porquet; daughter Penny Ferretti; grandchildren Christina, Erica (Tommy), Stephanie, (John) and Damien; siblings Henry Porquet and Gina McPhee.

He was predeceased by his father Charles, his mother Elise, his brothers Benny and Louis, and sisters Denise (Gillis), Martha (O’Sullivan) and Carmen (Roach).

Porky had a successful 36 year career with the RCAF. His father wanted him to work in the coal mine, which he did – for one day. The next day, at 17 years of age, he joined the RCAF, to his father’s dismay. He was well travelled thanks to his military career, having been to Portugal, Germany, France, Holland, Gibraltar, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and Frobisher Bay – he even crossed the Arctic Circle. Once he retired, he built his dream cottage in Nova Scotia, where he summered for the next 21 years, and wintered in Florida. He moved to Winnipeg in 2001.

Porky had an exceptionally strong work ethic and was always working on one project or another. He couldn’t sit still even in his declining years. Always ready and willing to help anyone who needed it, he would lend a hand to anyone and everyone. He was known for his kindness and generosity, as well as for his outstanding card playing skills. He was also known for being a prankster, and for his wonderful sense of humour. His presence will be greatly missed, as he was always a joy to be around.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, Manitoba.
