Claude Ivor Jones
Claude Ivor Jones spent his final day with family by his side and passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021. Claude was born in Winnipeg on October 24, 1943 and raised in Charleswood. Claude made his home in Brandon, until he moved to Selkirk to be near family.
Claude was predeceased by his wife Dawn, his mother and father, Dorothy and Ivor and sister-in-law Sharon. Left to mourn his passing are his children John and Robyn (Rob), brothers Christian (Terry) and Mark and special friend Renee, brothers-in-law Bill (Vivian) and Graham, sister-in-law Bev Gray, and nephews Matthew (Allison), Brett, Sheldon, Kaitlyn, Marshall, Clayton (Nicole) and Randy (Syna).
Claude was an avid sportsman playing hockey, baseball and curling. He was even a champion shuffle board player, but it was golf that was his true passion. Claude divided his time golfing in Brandon all summer and Yuma, Arizona all winter. He scored a Hole in One twice! Claude won Silver in the Arizona Senior Games for golf in his age group. In addition, to playing several sports Claude found time to give back as a coach and volunteer. He coached flag football and a women’s baseball team, called the “Jones Girls” that included several of his relatives. He also volunteered at the World Curling Championships when they were held in Brandon.
In his later years, Claude was member of the Selkirk Legion and the Over 60s Club. He enjoyed attending performances of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Theatre Centre and Selkirk Steeler games.
In addition to sports, Claude enjoyed travelling. Whether it was a submarine ride in Maui, a bus tour of Ireland or a trolley ride in Toronto. Claude was always up for an adventure.
A big thank you all of Claude’s caregivers at Woodland Court, River Ridge, Oakview Place, and Dr. Brown for helping to make his last years productive and enjoyable.
