Darrin Mages

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Darrin Mages, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on September 23, 2022, at the age of 57.

Darrin is survived by his wife Anita of 38 years; his daughters Mandy (Jeff) and Nicole (Jonathan); his grandchildren Jordan (Elyse) and Robbie; great-grandchild Josiah; brothers Thomas and Gary (Terry); sisters Debbie (Donny) and Lauren; his mother-in-law Ella; uncle Heinz; brother-in-law Helmut; sister-in-law Christine and many aunties, uncles, nephews and nieces.

Darrin was predeceased by his parents Michael and Tillie; his twin brother Billy and his sister-in-law Marlene.

Darrin was born a twin on February 20, 1965. He grew up in Garden City, where he attended middle school at H.C. Avery and high school at Garden City Collegiate. After school, Darrin went on to work as a carpet installer. It was around this time, he met the love of his life, Anita and had two beautiful daughters, Mandy and Nicole.

Darrin went on to work at City Bread for 13 years and finally ended his working career at CN Rail in 2018, when he was suddenly diagnosed with cancer.

Darrin loved and valued every possible moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He thoroughly enjoyed watching and playing sports. Golf was his favourite. Darrin loved to cook. Secretly he was better than all his sibling. He also enjoyed maintaining the yard, where he would meticulously ensure his lawn was the best kept on the street.

His love of life will never be forgotten, his infectious smile, kindness and laughter will always be remembered. He will be greatly missed and loved in our hearts, forever and always.

Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. The service will be livestreamed and can be watched via the following link https://youtu.be/iwbbL4lL-IQ
