Dean Martin Bear

April 29, 1968 – July 7, 2026

After a lengthy battle with diabetes and heart disease, Deano passed away peacefully at the age of 58 years old.

Deano is survived by his wife Otavia (Otta) Bear (nee Mancusi); his two daughters Maria and Stacey; grandchildren Mercedes, Mya, Adrien, Ally, Aiden and his step-granddaughter Shanelle Williams.

Deano was predeceased by his parents George William Bear Sr., Mary Anne Klyne (nee Halcrow); step-dad Robert (Bob) Klyne; sister Rose Marie Bear; brother John Bear. His two best friends Glen Chartrand, Kurt Desjarlais and his favorite cousin A.J Halcrow.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters Sandra (Rolly), Gail, Stella and Lonie; brothers George, and Sheldon; Deano’s extended family “The Mancusi family” in Winnipeg; numerous nieces and nephews; Deano has four Godchildren Jamie, Stephanie, Santana, and Koby; his best friend Ron Wesley; two surviving uncles John Halcrow, John Cook and aunty Jean Bear.

Deano was born in Selkirk, MB on April 29, 1968; born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, where he worked for 25 years at E-Z Painting as professional painter and loved what he did. Until he moved his family back to his community of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation in 2008. Where he had plenty of job opportunities within the community such as Public Works, Medical Driver, DJ Marty Bear at Jordan’s Principal sobriety dances.

He had a passion for music, classic rock and classic country were his favorite. He was a one man band, he could play any instrument from guitar, fiddle, a keyboard etc. He also loved jamming at his late brothers coffee house.

Deano will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his grandchildren he loved so much.

Deano loved to golf with his best friend Kurt, he loved the holidays, especially Christmas, he would go all out.

Deano was the most humorous guy you could have ever met, he would joke around and tease anyone around him, he always made people laugh and would say the funniest jokes until our stomachs hurt. He always made sure his family was taken care of.

The family would like to thank the staff at the MICU at Health Sciences Center and the staff at Selkirk Regional Health Center, for all there care and compassion. Making Deano as comfortable as possible in his last hours.

As per Deano’s wishes a private family viewing will be held and cremation to follow. Celebration of life will be July 14, 2026 held at Private Tom Chief Memorial Hall at 1:00 p.m.
