Obituary

DEANNA JEAN REMPEL

January 23, 1942 – October 28, 2025

Deanna Rempel of Gimli, MB, born January 23, 1942, passed away the morning of October 28, 2025 at age 83. Deanna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Blain (Hali), Barry (Bonnie), and Brad (Danielle), as well as her six grandchildren, Cassidy (Nick), Leanna, Matthew, Brenna, Brooke, and Blake. Deanna is also survived by her sisters, Ruby and Elaine. She was predeceased by her parents William and Caroline, her sister Lillian, and her husband Dave.

Deanna was the youngest of four children born to William and Caroline Kreutzer and grew up on a small farm 3 miles west of Plumas, Manitoba. Deanna spent her early years in Plumas where she met her late husband Dave in the tenth grade of high school. Deanna moved to the big city of Winnipeg and worked for Dillard's as a sales clerk before securing a position with Manitoba Hydro in 1960. Deanna spent two years in Winnipeg before Dave proposed and whisked her off to Thompson to start their life together. Dave and Deanna were married in Thompson on November 2, 1963 and welcomed their first son Blain in 1965. Barry was born in 1966 and baby brother Brad in 1971.  Deanna spent her time raising her three playful boys in their first home together on Silver Crescent where they created timeless friendships and made ever-lasting memories. Deanna’s time away from her rambunctious boys was often spent at the Thompson Curling Club or having coffee and playing cards with friends.

After Deanna’s retirement in 1999, she and Dave decided to continue their adventure together in Gimli. The town was new to them both, but they embraced it as an opportunity to meet new people and explore new neighborhoods. Living closer to the beach quickly became one of the greatest joys for the entire family. Countless hours were spent there; playing with grandchildren on the sand, splashing in the water, or simply sitting side by side in their beach chairs, and watching the sunsets on “Rempel Beach”.

Deanna shared her husband’s love for sports, particularly hockey. The two of them sat watching the games together, rarely ever missing a Jets game; even extending their interest to different hockey pools and contests.

Dave and Deanna were fortunate to enjoy many wonderful trips together over the years, often to warm and sunny destinations. They loved spending time by the ocean, and sharing those experiences with friends and family. One of their most special trips was to Maui, Hawaii, where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, which soon became their favourite destination, forever holding significance in the family.

When Deanna’s “poopsie” passed on January 15, 2023, she quickly started making plans to relocate into an assisted living complex.  Stephenson Hus provided Deanna with a community of new friends and memories, while still visiting with her grandchildren and family on a regular basis.  There were many sleepovers, card games, snacks, and laughter over the past year.

Deanna took her last breath surrounded by her loving family, with her husband Dave overseeing them all. Loved by all those that had the honour of being a part of her life, she will be missed greatly.
