Dennis Garry Banash

Dennis Garry Banash, 72, of Selkirk Manitoba, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at the Selkirk Regional Health Center with his wife Diane by his side.  

Dennis was born on June 7, 1953, in Selkirk to Kasmir and Pauline Banash. He was predeceased by his father, Kasmir Banash. He will be lovingly remembered by his spouse Diane Banash; daughters, Sara Dickson (Tyler) and Lisa Banash; mother Pauline Banash; sister Cheryl Steel (Jon); granddaughters Kinley and Emersyn Dickson and grand-dog Buddy. He will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, numerous family members, neighbors and friends.

Dennis attended the University of Manitoba where he met his wife, Diane, of 48 years. Upon completing his Bachelor of Physical Education and Education Certificate, he was employed by the Lord Selkirk School Division from 1976 to 2008 as a teacher, coach, vice principal, and principal. He will be fondly remembered by many students, athletes, and colleagues.

Dennis was known for his kindness, humour, dedication to family, and love of hockey. He was a devoted father/grandfather who was best known for his “dad jokes” and finding a good bargain.  Whether he was in Alberta, Grand Beach, a school playground or watching his granddaughters play sports, he had a special way of making you feel important and seen.

Dennis and Diane enjoyed their retirement years traveling with Cheryl & Jon and enjoying their vacation home at Venetian Park Estates in Sarasota, Florida where they made new friends, hosted family & old friends, and of course, Dennis played hockey.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St. Selkirk, Manitoba on March 12 at 1:00 p.m. The Mass will be livestreamed via the link https://www.youtube.com/live/z-wn8VDjYl4
